Holders for candles are also used as part of religious ceremonies, and come in different shapes and sizes to hold different sized candles. Some are shaped like bowls; some are shaped like vases and are used to enclose a tall candle like a pillar candle. Others are plates, which the candle is put on to protect the table or counter it is placed on.
Originally candle holders were made as wall sconce's for holding torches, made my skilled crafts men. As candles came to the fore front of design the sconce's were designed to hold candles. Today though, they are mass produced to a standard size to hold most candles, or with a spike to hold a pillar candle in place. Candles holders have become a first choice gift to those moving into new homes, or for birthdays, weddings and other holidays. You won't go wrong giving one as a gift, go for a simple design and it will fit in with all homes.
It is a well known fact that collecting and using candles in the home is a very popular past-time. The reason for this is due to the proliferation of candles, both in terms of size, shape, color and fragrance that you can purchase these days. Using candles in the home can really add to the ambience of a room as the soft flickering light can be soothing and relaxing and even a bit romantic, as anyone who has dined by candle light will tell you.
