Modern floating shelf first thing we did to start. The construction of the shelf is to start with a 2x4 and mark it at four feet and 4 inches, which is an inch less than the length of our total shelf. Next, we go ahead and rip that down the table, saw added a bevel, and what that's going to give us is one piece of the shelf and one piece that's gonna sit on our ball that we can hook the shelf into the next step is to cut the sides of the MDF and then we're gonna go ahead and cut the top and bottom of the shelf, and that way we'll be able to put it all together. As a box, we have all of our pieces cut we're gonna. Go ahead and nail these all together when an 18-gauge nailed.
Now we, our box, built we're gonna go ahead and take our bevel 2x4 here and nail it in tune the inside here with them again with the 18 gauge dealer. The next thing we're gonna move on to is cutting the trim. We did one piece of trim around the top one around the bottom, so fairly simple, but definitely made the whole shelf. So, as you can see, we finished out the Shelf. We went ahead and cocked all the nail holes and went ahead and sanded down all that, and now we have it completely ready and ready to be painted.
We're gonna go ahead and paint this, and we're also going to be painting the piece that we are gonna put on our wall, which is less important. But I want to go ahead and make everything look nice and we are going to be using a paint sprayer to paint this, but it doesn't really matter what it exactly use to do it and I'm also going to be using some semi-gloss white. Just think. It'll. Look good as far as where it's going to go in here, once the shelf is all painted. We moved to the inside of the house, and I go ahead and mark the wall.
I had 52 inches, which is the height that I want for. My shelf and then I went ahead and just took a four-foot level and playing that over, so I have a reference line when I'm screwing up our two-by-four. Next, I marked where the studs are before I hold up the bevel 2x4 and go ahead screwing down into place, while you could screw the Shelf directly to the wall. The advantage of this is if you ever decide to paint the shelf or repaint the wall.
