Kitchen floating shelves. Luckily, I found footage that I actually filmed the project when we did it about a year ago and I thought I'd show you guys how we made them super easy super simple. I like this electric sander, it helps get the job done faster. I used sixty grit, sandpaper and also one twenty. You need some blue gloves, some wiping cloths, and some wood stain. This is in the espresso color.
Then I got the spray polyurethane clear stain. Instead of a brush on the kind and you're also going to need a plank of wood, and then these are the brackets that we used for our shelves. We got these brackets at Home Depot. I will link them below or in our blog post, so you guys can find in my line step number one, the stand you want to use your sander. I'M again, I recommend using this electric sander is awesome. It collects all the dust in that little bag and you want to use the thicker grit first to try to get all the big grooves out.
Then you can go over it with a smoother sander and really work on smoothing out the fine little imperfections. But again we wanted it to stay kind of rustic and I used my cloth and I wiped down both planks of wood to make sure that all of the little dust particles were off, and then I grabbed my lip stain. Okay, put your gloves on. For this part, because you will ruin your hands, if you don't, then take a new cloth, a clean cloth and dip it into the wood stain and start to rub the stain onto the wood.
When you get to the end parts, if you left them a little rest as we did, you want to just make sure that you blot to make sure that you fill in each of the grooves and just follow the instructions on the back of your wood stain For us, I think we had to let it dry for like five hours or something, and if you put it on first and it's too dark, you can always go over it and kind of start to stop up some of the excess stains.
I didn't get footage of this last step, but after about 12 hours of it drying overnight, then you use your clear coat and you spray them down to kind of seal this game and while ma, we hug these two pieces of wood that we stained up with those awesome brackets - and I just accessorized, put all of my dishes back up and again, I wanted to make this a pretty kind of thing, so I didn't use any of our basic type dishes. I used a lot of our pretty dishes and I put most of our food in the pantry, and I just wanted to be able to display some of our fun either. I think you turned out really cute.
