Console tables in your foyer do not need to be strictly decorative additions to the space. When you step in the front door, the console table is a logical place to drop your keys, the mail, and whatever else is in your hands. If you find one with drawers or a storage base, you can tuck away the children's gloves or the dog's leash. When it's outfitted with a mirror, it's a perfect place to take a glance at your hair or makeup before you walk out the door.
Usually tall and narrow sofa or console tables are the perfect way to spruce up a boring entry way. Instead of welcoming guests with a blank wall try a delicate table laden with a favorite photo and candles as well as a vase of fresh garden blooms. Or fill that empty space behind the sofa with an elegant piece perfect for resting a beverage or a book. From ornately carved solid wood pieces to scrolling metal works of art with clean, clear glass resting on top there are many options in console table style to suit your needs.
The first step is to decide on what type of wood you would like your table to be crafted from. You might already own a few other wood furniture pieces in your house that you are trying to get your table to match or maybe you just have a particular kind of wood you favor. Then you want to pick out the place in your house where you will display the table. Knowing that will assist you in determining what size table you should look for. Console tables aren't all the same dimensions. If you first measure the spot, then you will be able to search for the perfect table that for your spot.
As you undertake the purchase of console tables to help with your storage problems, you need to make a note of what you need before you buy. How much storage do you really need console tables to provide? Do you have minor to moderate storage needs? You may want to look at tables that are more ornate but only have a little storage area, like one long drawer. But if you realize you have a lot of things you need to find a place to put away, you should look for more practical console tables with more drawers or shelving options you can use to get control of your clutter.
While many people only see console tables as pieces that would go in the living room, they can really be spread throughout the house to offer a number of storage opportunities. You could place one console table in the entryway, as a place to put away keys, the mail, or other small items you may regularly have as you walk in and out of the house. This would be a great place for a more ornate console table. It could have one drawer to put those little items out of the way, but the rest could be a beautiful piece of wrought iron or hand tooled wood that will put visitors in awe as soon as they step in the door.
