Console tables are so diverse, and available in such a wide selection of designs, sizes, colors and shapes, that it can sometimes be difficult to define the difference between a console table and a sofa table. For those of you who are unsure exactly what they are, the definition is really rather vague, they are defined as small tables, often narrow in shape, supported by either two, or four legs, leaving the decision of whether the table you are looking at is a sofa table, or a console table.
When console tables first became popular, it was not uncommon to attach them directly to the wall; it was a shelf, but with table legs in the front. These tables were traditionally paired with a mirror and sconces. Now they come in enough different materials and styles to satisfy any design preferences.
The last thing on the list of items to think about when looking for the perfect console table is the material it is made out of. This can go along with the design of the piece, but knowing what makes for high quality material is also important. Reading the descriptions of online purchases carefully will tell you what the table is made out of so that you can find the material that will best match your decor. Shopping online is a great way to save money on a quality piece of furniture. It allows you to buy direct from companies so that you cut out some of the overhead that is involved with buying in a store. Remember that when a company saves money on furniture, that savings is passed along to shoppers.
